The ancient city of Pushkar is home to the only Brahma temple in the world. Pushkar has a rich historical and cultural heritage and is famous for the annual cattle fair which invites huge crowd of traders and tourists. Pushkar lake is surrounded on all sides by 52 ghats (ghats – an area beside the lake where people can sit and use lake water for holy bath).
Brahma temple and lake are must visit point for every visitors. People coming here take holy bath in lake and pray to God. Every evening traditional Aarti is performed giving eyes and ears a very pleasant and peaceful surroundings.
Pushkar fair makes peaceful town alive in the month of Kartika (October & November). Pushkar fair continues for five days and these five days are a period of relaxation and merry-making for the villagers.
It is one of the largest cattle fairs in the country in which thousands of camels are sold. There are many stalls in the fair who sells jewellery for camels. Camels are decorated with silver beads, other jewellery, bells, bangles etc. When camels move around in fair it makes very pleasant sound out of bells and jewellery they wear.
Pushkar fair is not only for selling camels it is much more. Many games related to camels are organized and awards are also given to the best in category. All over there are music, dances, camel and horse races, magic shows etc. All these make pushkar alive for the duration fair is held.
